A couple of coal cars and three locomotives jumped the tracks in a Norfolk- Southern rail yard in Roanoke this afternoon.

They were part of a train headed for York Haven, Pennsylvania. The cars were tilting- -about 30-degrees off center- -but did not lose any coal.
Two of the three locomotives lost some of their diesel fuel.
A Haz-Mat crew was on the scene, taking care of that.

The federal government is proposing that Alaska Airlines ground its planes. Federal Aviation Administration regulators believe the airline's heavy maintenance facilities which take jets out of service do not meet safety standards. The Seattle-based carrier has seven days to respond to the agency's proposal.

After Alaska Air Flight 261 crashed January 31st an intense inspection of the airline began. All 88 passengers on that flight were killed when the plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Los Angeles.

A former Christiansburg police officer will have to register as a sex offender after being convicted of fondling a 13-year-old girl.

Terry Calvin Buchanan pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery of the girl.
She went to authorities last year, showing bruises resulting from an encounter in Buchanan's car.
Buchanan left the police department after an internal investigation.
The judge gave him a suspended five year sentence.
He'll serve no time if he registers as a sex offender and completes a sex offender treatment program.

Some types of Light n' Lively and Breakstone's cottage cheese could be contaminated with E. Coli bacteria.

This octopus is named after the British actor and like the movie character he can perform some amazing stunts.
Tim Fulford who is studying applied biology at Brighton University, has been testing the intelligence of the animals.
He placed a jar containing food inside the tank to see if Roger could figure out how to get at it.
He cracked the problem and unscrewed the jar.
Roger Moore is believed to have the same level of intelligence as a dog.
But there is a problem - although his short term memory is excellent - his long term memory is not.
After a few days' break he often forgets what he's learned.
