The court agreed with the US Justice Department that the only way to prevent Microsoft from unfairly dominating the marketplace was to divide it. With one company handling Windows , while another separate firm would market Microsoft s Internet browser and software applications.

The second time's a charm for union employees of Dan River Incorporated.

The union rejected the company's contract two months ago, but tonight employees changed their minds.
Dan River spokesperson Joe Bouknight (BOCK-night) says the company is pleased with the long term agreement.
The five year contract goes into effect tomorrow.
(Bock-night) Bouknight says the union voted on the original contract with some modification but would not go into the details of the new contract.
The original proposal gave the textile company the flexibility of extending shift hours and cutting down on overtime pay.

Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker has yet to report to the Richmond Braves, Atlanta's triple A affiliate.

Rocker, who was sent down by the Braves earlier this week was expected to join the team this evening to begin a series with the Toledo Mudhens.
However, just a few moments before game time he was not at the stadium and the team had received no word from him or his agent.

Rocker hinted on an Atlanta radio station that he might retire from baseball and become a stock broker. He has 3 days to report to the Richmond Braves.

((CHIP SULLIVAN:)) ((That's Chip Sullivan talking about the massive par 6 hole that will be the centerpiece of Ashley Plantation's back nine that is scheduled to open later this summer. There is only one other par 6 in Virginia near Fredericksburg, by the time you play this 714 yard beast you will feel like you have gone to Spotsylvania County and back. ((CHIP AND MIKE)) One question is frequently being asked and that is a par 6 hole legal? The answer is yes. The United State Golf Association recognizes and hole longer than 699 years as a par 6. Once this back nine opens, golfers will have to survive the six, then take on a challenging par 4, before stroking a 235 yard par 3. The Hometown Hoops coaching family grew a little bit today. Salem high school announced that Grant Smythers is the Spartans new head boys basketball coach. He comes to Salem from Carroll County high school. He replaces Charlie Morgan.

VMI head baseball coach Scott Gines has resigned.
Gines has coached V-M-I for the past six seasons compiling a 104 victories including 57 in conference compettition ranked first on the all time Keydet baseball list.
