Brian Jackson was found guilty of setting the fire plus six counts of First Degree Murder

But the jury believed Jackson was involved in setting the fire at 502 Church Avenue, having threatened to burn the place down, said he wanted the fire set, even arranging to buy the gasoline.
All that was according to Jay Clements, the man who's already serving 25 years for the crime.
The Prosecutor waited until the end of his final argument to read the jury part of a letter Jackson sent Clements a few months after the fire.
It warned Clements about telling what happened that night, because somebody might be recording his comments in jail.

Terry is the third man implicated in the crime... the one who bought the gasoline.
Prosecutor Don Caldwell had been asked whether Terry will be tried for the same crimes.
Jackson got 20 years on each of the murder convictions, plus 5 years for arson. That's the minimum sentence.
Both sides said they may ask the judge to impose something less than that, though.

A new three- year contract has been approved by Union workers at the Blacksburg Corning plant.
The agreement includes annual wage increases, plus improvements in the retirement plan and other benefits.
The new labor agreement takes effect immediately. It runs through July 2003.

Two of his friends provided testimony implicating him in the murder.
Barbara Helton said he confessed to shooting Munsey after making a pass at her and sparking a fight.
Another friend, Kevin Williams, said he left the gun authorities linked to Munsey's murder in the back of Thomas' car days before she was killed.

Authorities in Henry County are investigating a murder tonight.
A motorist found 28-year old Keith Mandrell Thomas lying in the road near Bassett.
He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Investigators believe Thomas was killed by a single gunshot wound to the back.
The state medical examiners office will perform an autopsy, and the Henry County sheriffs department says a team of investigators has been assigned to the case.
