Timothy Buford was set to stand trial for fatally shooting teen-age rival Prentise Jordan on the dance floor of a Roanoke Night Club last August. Instead today, he admitted his guilt.

It was a domestic dispute that turned deadly in the middle of a Danville Street.
Officers say a man abducted his girlfriend at gun point and fatally shot her before killing himself.
It happened around 7:30 this morning right at the time a bus driver was going to pick up students on that street. No children were on the bus at the time but some students saw the initial dispute.

Jean, I talked with family members--they are too shocked and saddened by the murder-suicide to appear on camera.
They do say the two had been estranged for some time.

Two lives ended at this intersection of Parker Road and Piney Forest. Danville authorities say 35 year old Dennis Tanner abducted his estranged girlfriend 34 year old Lisa Mays and shot her.
Mays' neigbhor saw the initial dispute at the mobile home park before it was taken onto the streets.

Intermet got the go-ahead today from state environmental officials to start rebuilding New River Castings.

The Department of Environmental Quality issued a new air permit for the plant that calls for stricter controls on air pollution.
The plant was destroyed in the March 5th gas explosion that killed three people.
Long before that, neighbors complained about its dust pollution.
The new air permit creates tougher standards at New River Castings AND the New River Foundry ... both owned by Intermet.
The company will have to report to the D-E-Q every six months to show compliance.

A 21 tee salute was fired off the 18th fairway into Carmel Cove this morning in a tribute to Stewart, the 1999 U.S. Open Champion who was killed in a plane crash last October.
Twenty prominent players took part in the ceremony. Payne's trusted friend Paul Azinger also gave a stirring tribute to Stewart, as did Payne's wife Tracey.
