The two hikers were rescued after spending three days in the woods without food, and with very little water.
They began their hike at the Serenity House in Floyd County.

An elderly Roanoke County man was struck and killed this morning on his way to the mailbox.

Authorities say 89- year old Winford Lester was crossing Sugar Loaf Mountain Road on foot when he was struck around eleven A-M.
Investigators do NOT expect to file any charges against the driver.
They say Lester started to cross the road and stopped when he saw the car.
But then he started to walk again and that's when he was struck.
Investigators believe Lester may have had a vision problem.

A federal appeals court has turned down the appeal of Jens Soering.
Soering is the German diplomat's son convicted of killing his girlfriend's parents in suburban Lynchburg in 1985.
The court yesterday rejected Soering's claims that he was illegally interrogated and that prosecutors withheld evidence crucial to his defense.
Soering is serving two life sentences for stabbing Derek and Nancy Haysom to death in their home.

Abortion rights supporters in Virginia are wasting little time reacting to a Supreme Court ruling.
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia filed a motion yesterday, asking a federal appeals court to overturn the state's law banning late-term procedures that opponents call partial birth abortion.
The action was filed two days after the U-S Supreme Court struck down a similar law in Nebraska.

For starters, this is no longer legal.
Children under 16 are not allowed in the beds of pickup trucks any more.
Other notable changes .. adults learning to drive can only take the license test three times in three months. They must also go to driving school or hold a learner's permit for 30 days.
First-time drunk drivers with blood alcohol levels at or above 2-point-oh must now spend at least five days in jail.
And you can't let things like license plate holders and covers obscure the plate's readability.

Foster parents in Virginia may soon be allowed to spank their foster children ... as long as the swats are not legally abusive.
The state Board of Social Services has voted to change its rules .. which prohibit spanking of any kind.
The new regulations would take effect November first.

100 Bell Atlantic union employees staged an informational picket at the Roanoke site on Monday. Employees say they are overworked and under too much stress.
Picketers met with the company's CEO to discuss terms of a new contract.

General Electric and its unions may be close to a new contract agreement, their old one expired Sunday.
Workers at G-E's Salem plant rallied in April for better job security. They say high-paying jobs are disappearing.

Virginia Tech is opening an Economic Development office with the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership in Franklin Plaza.

The Dow gained 50 points to close at 10,447, and the NASDAQ was up 88.89 to finish at 3966.12.

The newcomers are rising fast not only in Winston Cup but in the trucks series as well as rookie Kurt Busch takes the checkered flag in this one. He is just 21 years old and, after four runner up finishes he notches his first Craftsman Truck Series victory. Busch also started from the pole position. The youngster needed just 14 truck starts to notch his first win. Randy Tolsma finished second followed by Greg Biffle, then Steve Grissom and Andy Houston rounded out the top five.
