Wytheville's Lightnin plant is closing by the end of the year, and that will leave 70 people looking for new jobs.
Lightnin has made equipment used to treat water and manufacture drugs in the Fairview Industrial Park for more than two decades.
Its parent company, S-P-X Corporation in Michigan, says decreased demand for parts is to blame for the closing.

The twin engine piper went down near the community of Deerfield last July. The pilot, Doctor Brian Hawley of Forest City, Arkansas, was the only person on board.
The National Transportation Safety Board found that the airplane had been on a continuous maintenance program, and the wreckage indicated the plane was under power at the time of the impact.
There were enough remains to conduct an autopsy, but the N-T-S-B reports the pilot's father, two uncles and a cousin had all suffered fatal heart attacks.
