For the second time this year NASCAR and the New Hampshire Speedway have been rocked by the death of a driver. 30 year old Kenny Irwin was killed today in practice at the track.

(( By the time that rescue workers made their way to Kenny Irwin it was too late. Unlike the harmless looking crash that took the life of Adam Petty, this one was a violent as they get. Brett Bodine was behind Irwin's car when the accident took place around 11:20am. ((BRETT BODINE:)) Irwin was taken to the infield care center and eventually to Concord Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead of multiple injuries. Irwin grew up in Indianapolis, and made his splash in NASCAR by winning rookie of the year honors on the Craftsman Truck Series. He jumped to the Winston Cup ranks fulltime in 1998 - but had the misfortune of having to drive the fabled Havoline Ford. He was never able to live up to the accomplishments his predecesors in theat car achieved. This year Irwin switched to drive for Felix Sabates in the Bell South Chevy. He was 28th in points this year with on top five finish.))

The search is on for suspects in the early- morning shooting and robbery of a Lynchburg man.

Authorities say several men kicked in the door of this house at 915 Dearing Street just before four a-m and shot 38- year- old Edward Reeves once in the chest.
The suspects then stole an undisclosed amount of money and left.
Reeves is listed in satisfactory condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Authorities believe the shooting was drug- related.
Anyone with information about the crime should call Lynchburg police.

DURING THE CONFRONTATION ONE GUARD ALLEGEDLY USED A CHOKE HOLD THAT KILLED HIM. Prosecutors say Dennis Richardson used excessive force and charged him with involuntary manslaughter. The family's attorney called that a slap in the face.

Though Finley and most of the security guards were black, protesters still accused Lord & Taylor of having black workers scrutinize minority shoppers to avoid the appearance of discrimination or racial profiling. In a statement Lord & Taylor said, it reaffirms its commitment to meet with community leaders regarding the tragic incident but said we can offer no further comment. If convicted, Richardson could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On the issue on achieving more racial diversity in the Virginia State Police, the governor asked black leaders to help him recruit officers.
On the issue of racial discrimination in the Virginia National Guard, the governor refused to meet with three men who allege discrimination.
He sent them to meet with his secretary of public safety.
The governor has already asked the Guard's Adjutant General to "move forcibly" to eradicate discrimination.

The results are in. Two unions representing 22-thousand General Electric employees across the country have ratified a new three-year contract with G-E.
500 G-E Union members in Salem voted in favor of the contract yesterday.

Authorities say a man kicked in the door at 547 Westover Drive and shot 29 year old Chris Gill.
Police say he also shot at Donna Pruitt, but the gun jammed.
Police say the suspect is Pruitt's estranged husband.

The victim's wife whom he was separated with came to pick up their dog this afternoon. She has to explain to her son why dad won't be there for his birthday next week.

A medical examiner says a teenager found dead in Pittsylvania County suffered at least three gunshot wounds... mainly to his chest and abdomen.

18 year old Antoine Lamont Jones of Danville was found dead on a driveway at Moorefield Bridge Road in a rural part of Pittsylvania County.

Cory Everson's health and fitness club suddenly closed this week with no warning to its one-thousand customers. Club owners say an air conditioning unit broke, and hot temperatures inside are unsafe.
