For the second time this season, a NASCAR driver has perished at the New Hampshire Speedway. Winston Cup driver Kenny Irwin was killed today during a practice run at the track.
He crashed his car in virtually the same spot where Adam Petty died on May 12th.

Irwin's car crashed coming out of turn three and slid on the driver's side into the turn before stopping and flipping over on its roof. By the time rescue workers got him out of the car he was taken to the infield media center and later to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead of Multiple Injures. Mike Stevene will have more on Irwin later in sports.

General Electric says its Union members have accepted a new three-year contract.

More than 20-thousand union workers including 500 in Salem cast their votes.
Local members of the International Union of Electronic Workers approved the contract by a 90 percent margin.
They say the new contract will raise their salaries by 14-percent and provide early retirement opportunities.

A private real-estate investment group bought a Roanoke business park for more than 13-million dollars today.

Roanoke Valleypointe L-L-C in conjunction with R-V-P Development bought the Valleypointe property.
Valleypointe development began in 1988, and its master plan envisioned recreational and industrial uses.
The move shouldn't affect current tenants, and the new owners hope to bring in more when development is complete.

The owner of a women's fitness center in Roanoke County says he hopes to re-open next week but may have to close permanently in September.

A thousand women belong to Cory Everson's Health and Fitness Club, but they were not told the place would be close this week. The owner says the landlord refuses to pay for a new air conditioner, violating the lease. He also says the landlord doubled the rent to ten thousand dollars a month to prevent it from being sold. But the landlord says a manager OFFERED to pay ten thousand dollars a month in a takeover attempt. The owner hopes to reopen the club Monday with a new air-conditioner.

The Governor's staff wants it clearly understood that the state's only role in resolving these complaints, now that they're in the Department of Defense pipeline, is to enter into a settlement at the very end of the process, through lawyers with the Attorney General's office.
A representative of that office was present this afternoon for that meeting.
On the larger issue, the Governor's directed his adjutant general already to move forcibly to eradicate discrimination.

The Fairview Home's board of directors appointed a new acting administrator and made some changes on the board today.
Fairview is home to about 65 disabled and elderly residents from four counties and the city of Radford.
It's thought to be nearly 30-thousand dollars in debt.
Members of the board say they're looking to their local governments to bail the home out of its financial problems.

Investigators in Pittsylvania County know how a teenage was murdered, they're not saying much more.
A medical examiner says the victim died from at least three gunshot wounds... mainly to his chest and abdomen.

Brett Bodine was behind Irwin's car when the accident took place around 11:20am. ((BRETT BODINE:)) Irwin was taken to the infield care center and eventually to Concord Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead of multiple injuries. Irwin grew up in Indianapolis, and made his splash in NASCAR by winning rookie of the year honors on the Craftsman Truck Series. He jumped to the Winston Cup ranks fulltime in 1998 - but had the misfortune of having to drive the fabled Havoline Ford. He was never able to live up to the accomplishments his predecesors in theat car achieved. This year Irwin switched to drive for Felix Sabates in the Bell South Chevy. He was 28th in points this year with on top five finish.))
