53- year- old Reginald Varner was arrested Wednesday night after being stopped for speeding.. an officer noticed blood in his vehicle.

He's charged with using an axe to murder his former wife.. 50- year- old Suzanne Varner, seen here in a News7 story from two years ago.
Varner also allegedly murdered his former mother- in- law, Susan Arena.
The two women owned Suzi's Antiques in Farmville, which provided many of the costumes for the movie "Titanic".

A collision between a truck and car in Campbell County left one man dead and a woman injured.

State police say 27- year- old Eddie Lee Edwards of Naruna lost control of his rig rounding this corner on Route 501 near Rustburg yesterday.
His truck, which was carrying wood chips, flipped over onto another car driven by 37- year- old Carrie Younger.
Younger suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Authorities blocked off Route 501 for most of the day while crews worked to remove the truck and its contents from the roadway.

Roanoke City Police are once again investigating gunfire on Lafayette Boulevard.
A woman says she was sitting in her house with her 5-year-old son Wednesday night when she heard four or five pops.
Police say one bullet went through two walls of the building.
Two more bullet holes were found in the siding. No one was hurt.
People in the neighborhood have complained recently about gangs of teenagers firing guns.
Roanoke authorities refuse to attribute the incidents to organized gangs.

Roanoke City Police say they were conducting an internal investigation, BEFORE the feds took over. The Department says rumors of misconduct by a few officers sparked the initial internal investigation.
But soon afterwards, the department turned the investigation over to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
Officials confirmed at least one officer has been placed on administrative leave but would not say how many other officers are under investigation.

A condemned killer died in Virginia's electric chair last night-- only the second death row inmate to do so in five years.

39 year old Michael David Clagett (KLAG-et) chose the chair and was pronounced dead just after nine o'clock tonight.
His minister said he was a truly reformed man.
He killed four strangers, while robbing a Virginia Beach restaurant in 1994.
The robbery netted 400 dollars.

George Washington High school in Danville could be getting some major improvements.
City Manager Jerry Gwaltney proposed a 16 million dollar improvement project for the school.
The project would be paid for through a bond issue.
Another multi-million dollar project proposed last night would upgrade the city's six elementary and middle schools.
That project would be paid for with lottery funds.
