The blast happened in Brooklyn and tonight the search is on for people who may be trapped inside.

The apartment building crumbled in the blast- taking part of an adjacent structure with it-
This is the scene tonight- One four story high building is now only about one and half stories high.
Witnesses say they saw people inside the building just before the explosion but it's not clear if that is the case- the concern now is that people could be trapped-
Rescuers are searching the debris for anyone who may be inside.

The reason -- Back Creek responds to more rescue calls.

((Right now the Back Creek fire station is not staffed during daytime hours -- and that's a problem because according to reports that's when the majority of calls come in. Meanwhile up the hill on Bent Mountain three paid fire fighters work the daytime shift where fewer calls come in.

Even though Back Creek would respond to the Bent Mountain area during daytime hours, many worry the drive up the hill will slow the response time down. So residents took their concerns to the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors.

Cressell is serving life in prison for killing Garnet G-P Johnson in Grayson County in July of '97.
Cressell maintains he should've been tried outside Independence, because of extensive publicity leading up to his trial.
He also believes three of the jurors who heard the case were biased against him and should've been dismissed.
The justices rejected both claims and also found that the evidence in the case supported the jury's finding of a first- degree murder conviction.

A Danville man charged with murder tried to kill himself as police closed in on him today.

A six-day search for 40-year old Clyde Scott Pruitt led police to the Overby and Scales Street area of Danville.
After a house-to-house search, police found Pruitt in the backroom of a friend's house. Police say Pruitt shot himself in the head as they approached.
Pruitt is in critical condition at Danville Regional Medical Center .

A Lynchburg man died after falling out of a moving pick-up truck this afternoon.

41-year old Curtis Fitzgerald was riding in the back of a truck when he fell out and his head hit the pavement.

Doherty was a part of the 1982 Tar Heel team that won coach Dean Smith his first title.

Tech teamed up with Citgo and the Wood Brothers to sponsor the "Hokie Car" ... unveiled in Blacksburg yesterday.
Elliott Sadler will drive the car in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway September 9th.
More than 150 NASCAR and Hokie fans turned out to see the car.
