A six-day search for 40-year old Clyde Scott Pruitt led police to the Overby and Scales Street area of Danville.

After a house-to-house search, police found Pruitt in the backroom of a friend's house. Police say Pruitt shot himself in the head as they approached.

Fire officials in Anne Arundel County say the explosion trapped all three occupants of the house.
A 72-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Her husband and son were severely injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak (EH'-hud bah-RAHK') and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat were all smiles in front of the cameras yesterday.
White House spokesman Joe Lockhart says the friendly tone continued behind closed doors.
He says the atmosphere on the first day was good, although the mood was serious.
President Clinton held separate evening discussions with the two leaders, and all three delegations dined together.

A man died yesterday shortly after he apparently fell from a moving pick-up truck.

Attorney General Mark Earley is standing by Virginia's law banning so-called "partial-birth" abortion.
That's despite the U-S Supreme Court's decision last month to strike down a similar law in Nebraska.
Earley filed papers yesterday with a federal appeals court - saying Virginia's law differs enough from Nebraska's that it can still stand despite the Supreme Court ruling.
In light of the High Court's decision - abortion rights advocates in Virginia asked the appeals court to rescind its order allowing enforcement of the law.

A Canadian doctor who provides abortions in has been wounded for a second time, and investigators believe it's because of his medical practice.

A hooded assailant stabbed Garson Romalis once in his lower back, but the wound was not life-threatening.
The assailant escaped, and no suspects had been arrested as of late last night.
Vancouver police say they didn't know of a motive for the attack, but indicated it might be linked to Romalis' practice of providing abortions.
This isn't the first time Romalis has been injured. He was shot once by a suspected anti-abortion activist.

Experts from Virginia Tech destroyed hives of bees yesterday that are believed to have killed a goat in Alleghany County.

Hundreds of local actors will get their mugs on TV - when a Coca Cola commercial airs next month.

A California film company shot the ad at V-M-I yesterday - it has a graduation theme. Coke officials would not let us talk to the extras or watch the filming. But they let us inside for a few minutes when everyone was out to lunch. The actors fill this building, which has no air conditioning, with smoke as a special effect. Union actors from Los Angeles -- already on strike nationwide -- held a silent protest.

A Roanoke scrap yard has become the target of thieves.

So much metal has been stolen from Virginia Scrap Iron and Metal... the owner is offering a 500 dollar reward for information about the thefts.
It's an odd case, because scrap metal is not an easy thing to re-sell quietly.

Abbott figures it's either going out of the area or is being stolen to fill the needs of a particular individual.
He points to a stack of computer- room floor pieces. Not long ago, someone came in and stole a stack of pieces like this... all numbered and ready to be shipped.

He says Virginia's law differs enough from Nebraska's to hold up after the U-S Supreme Court ruled Nebraska's law unconstitutional.

A Montgomery County jail inmate who escaped through a food service elevator shaft is back in jail today.
Authorities found Melvin Leftwich Junior in an abandoned firetower in the Plum Creek section of the county.
He was recaptured without incident.

A Danville murder suspect shot and killed himself as police closed in on him yesterday.
Police found 40-year-old Clyde Scott Pruitt in the backroom of a friend's house after looking for him door-to-door.
