They're employed in the Roanoke locomotive shop.
A spokeswoman for Norfolk Southern says she doesn't know how long the work will last.
The company needed additional work on its trains.
Despite the call backs, Norfolk Southern still plans to lay off 2-hundred 28 employees at its Roanoke car shop next month.

The graduating class of two-thousand four will carry a unique distinction at Pulaski County high school.

That will be the first class to graduate without any valedictorians or salutatorians.
The school board has voted to drop the use of designations and will instead recognize all students who graduate with a four point oh grade point average.
School officials say some students have become so obsessed with chasing the top honors that they've loaded up on difficult courses with weighted grading scales.... forsaking other classes that might do them more good.

Nearly 40 percent of children in the United States live without their biological father.
That's according to the National Fatherhood Initiative.

The event was sponsored by a new organization called the Roanoke Valley Fatherhood Coalition.

A Lynchburg man died yesterday after crashing his bicycle.
Police say 51-year-old Reeves Agnew Fowler was going down a steep street about 25 miles an hour, when he lost control and hit a telephone pole head-on.
Police say Fowler most likely died on impact, but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities have tracked down a mental patient wanted for three felonies in Virginia.
Charles Robert Becker was charged in Carroll County with attempting to rape his estranged wife and breaking into her home.
Officials say Becker escaped from a North Carolina hospital on Wednesday while on an unsupervised break.
He was apprehended in Georgia.

A former Athens, West Virginia police chief has been sentenced to one to five years in prison for having sex with a teenager.
John K. Rapp pleaded guilty in a Mercer County courtroom in April to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and third degree sexual assault.
He was Athens' police chief when he had sex with his 15-year old neighbor between June 19-98 and the spring of 99.


Rapp is a retired state trooper... he also served as county campaign manager for Governor Underwood.

This week in Review.... A waiter at Ragazzi's Italian Restaurant on Electric Road in Roanoke County was apparently caught red-handed when he tried to overcharge customers.
The Better Business Bureau says the restaurants' policies which call for daily and nightly audits, or checks on credit card uses, may have saved its customers from being charged.

The Consumer Credit Counseling Service is holding seminars to provide some answers for first time home buyers. The two-part classes can be attended across the Valley. They cover mortgages, real estate contracts, and budgeting, AND are free of charge.

Roanoke City Manager Darlene Burcham revealed the new biomedical association with Kobe, Japan at a Kiwanis Club luncheon.

The number of Americans claiming unemployment benefits shot up last week to its highest point in more than a year, and the Roanoke Valley followed the trend.
