Residents of one Roanoke neighborhood are breathing easier today... but the news is not so encouraging for another neighborhood that may lie in the path of Interstate 73.

One of the alternatives now under consideration for I-73 would have taken the new interstate through the Riverland neighborhood, but today officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation said that plan has changed.
Because Riverland may be eligible for historic designation, planners have decided to consider a route on the other side of the Roanoke River in the southeast neighborhood.

The Alliance Air Boeing 737 was less than a mile from the Patna airport making its approach to land- when it crashed.
One eyewitness says the plane was spewing flames when it plunged into a government housing complex-
51 of the 58 people on board are dead- and four others on the ground were killed. There were seven survivors.
The flight originiated in Calcutta and was to go on to New Delhi- after a stop in Patna.
Alliance Air is owned by the Indian state airlines.

Vivian Joyce King pled no contest in Roanoke circuit court to a charge of practicing without a license.
As part of her agreement with the prosecutor, a second count was dropped.
And she won't serve any jail time.
King was indicted last spring, after the doctor she was working for wanted to see her license.
King kept coming up with excuses for failing to bring it in.
A check with the state found that King didn't have one.
