It's supposed to improve traffic safety and enhance economic development, but at a regional meeting in Salem, V-dot officials were urged to head warnings of caution.

Witnesses say a man was tailgating a woman on Interstate 81 near Arcadia when she attempted to change lanes.
Police say her car hit a tractor-trailer, flipped into the median, and hit a convertible traveling North.
The woman was killed. Two men in the convertible were seriously injured.

A Danville teenager is in custody charged with murdering another teenager.

Authorities arrested 19 year old Javon Chauncey King of Danville at his home this afternoon.

He's charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 18 year old Antoine Lamont Jones.
Jones was found in a rural part of the county on Moorefield Bridge Road earlier this month with multiple gun shot wounds.
Investigators are not releasing information about a motive for the murder.

A Pittsylvania County woman drove several miles to a gas station to get help this morning after being shot several times.

She was hit in her chest and leg.

It's NOT allowed in Virginia schools or even juvenile prisons.
But foster care parents in Virginia will be allowed to hit, shake, or pinch children -- as long as it's NOT "abusive" -- starting November first.
It's a decision some state social services board members are already regretting.

Campbell is irritated NOT just that the board voted in June to make foster care the only state-governed entity where corporal punishment is allowed... but that's the first time they ever discussed it.

It was the first time in 15 years the State Supreme Court has held a regular session in the Roanoke Valley.

A judge today delayed a ruling on whether to exempt Corporate Planners of California from the lawsuit.

A federal court jury in Charlottesville has ruled that the Virginia High School League discriminates against female athletes by allowing different seasonal alignments for female sports depending on the classification of the school.

The jury awarded 17 thousand dollars to each of the 11 plaintiffs in the lawsuit. In addition, the VHSL must now redesign it's program to comply with Title IX. Under the current system, all male sports take place in the same season. If a school changes classification, the sports seasons are the same for males. But a multi-sport female may have to choose between sports.
