The blaze that destroyed Lexington Presbyterian Church was an accident, according to State Police fire investigators.

Their final report confirms painters using a hot iron to scrape paint off the wood accidentally set the church ablaze.
The fire ravaged the historic church on July 18-th, collapsing the roof and steeple and filling the sanctuary with rubble.
The damage is estimated at two and a half million dollars.

School board members paln to hold an emergency meeting today to discuss the damages caused by this weekend's explosion at Pulaski County high school.
The board will ask for money to demolish and rebuild the mechanical room.
Administrators are hoping they can do it fast enough to start the school year on time.

Owning a gun after being convicted of a felony is against the law and carries a two to five year mandatory prison term.

Health problems are forcing Lynchburg's city manager to step down. He spent nearly twenty years at the helm of two city governments.

Two people were hospitalized following an accident on Route 220 in Franklin County yesterday.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes of 220, about ten miles south of Rocky Mount.
A tractor- trailer ran into traffic that had stopped behind a V-DOT mowing crew. Four vehicles were involved.
The two people who were taken to the hospital, did not appear to have serious injuries.
The new Jersey man who was driving the tractor- trailer, was charged with reckless driving.

Beverly James, Roanoke City's library director, is leaving next month to take a similar job in Greenville, South Carolina.
James has been in Roanoke more than 12 years.
She says the opportunity in Greenville was too good to pass up, because that city is building several new libraries.
Her departure is the latest in a series of retirements and resignations in Roanoke city government in the past year.
