Steam locomotive 12-18 has been in storage for years.
But last week, workers eased it out of the shops, and began sprucing it up.
Vanity Fair wants to use the locomotive as a background for the photos of Link.
The 12-18 was stored in the shops after Norfolk Southern stopped running steam excursions in 1994.
O. Winston Link is best known for the nighttime photographs he took of steam trains on the old Norfolk and Western Railway in the late 1950s.
