A day filled with announcements and confusion has left some customers ready to blow.

If the tire pressure is not correct, the tread may separate from the rest of the tire, causing the tire to split open or blow off.
Firestone recommends that tire pressure be between 26 and 30 P-S-I, so that heat can dissipate.
The company has ordered a three phase recall, where warmer states will be supplied with new tires first.
Virginia will be among the last of the states to see replacement tires.

A Floyd woman is dead and a sheriff's deputy in serious condition following a head-on collision this afternoon.

It happened on Ridgeview Road in Floyd County just before 2:30.
State police say 41-year-old Becky J. Gillespie crossed the center line and struck Deputy Roger Dickerson head-on.
Gillespie died at the scene.
Dickerson, a road deputy for three years in Floyd County, was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
State police blocked off traffic on Ridgeview Road for three hours to reconstruct the accident.

In Roanoke, deer and wet roadways appear to be factors in a late-afternoon accident that closed down Mud Lick Road for more than a half hour.
Accounts from the scene indicate the driver veered off the roadway in efforts to avoid two deer. The car slid off Mud Lick into a dry creekbed.
Crews had to pry open the car to free the driver, who was taken to Lewis Gale Medical Center for treatment.
No word yet on his identity or condition.

Hodges says the man hit her repeatedly with a brick, then stole her pocketbook with five dollars.
Her son is offering a thousand dollar reward for information about the attacker -- described as a black man, five feet eight inches tall, in his late 20's or thirties, wearing a white T-shirt or tank top with long kinky hair and a bandanna.
Police warn residents to lock their doors and use a screen door to hear when someone tries to enter.

The seven and a half million dollar project includes air conditioning, which will not be installed for one more year.

A generic version of the anti-depressant Prozac could soon hit the market.
The drug is made by Eli Lilly.
A federal appeals court has invalidated the company's patent, clearing the way for a cheaper version to be made available next year.
Lilly counts on Prozac for a quarter of its total sales .. Their stock lost a third of its value today.
A relatively new pap smear test is replacing the conventional method in doctors offices across the country and in the Roanoke Valley.

Rising sophomore Majestic Mapp tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing a pickup game at his high school alma mater in the Bronx last week.
He underwent an MRI Tuesday and he expected to be out of action for 4 to 6 months.
Mapp played in all 31 games as a freshman last season and was second on the team in assists.
