It happened around 8:30 this evening on Central Boulevard in Danville.

Police say 56-year old Charles Patrick Goodman of Danville crossed the median and struck a pick-up truck head on. A female passenger in the car was killed .. Police say she was NOT carrying identification. Goodman and the pick-up driver, (Lewis) Louis Durham of Danville, were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are apparently not life-threatening. Traffic was blocked for more than an hour as police worked to clear the scene.

More than 550 soldiers left Fort Hood, Texas today for Montana. They follow 500 other Fort Hood soldiers who were sent earlier to Idaho. Hundreds of evacuees have been allowed to return to their homes south of Helena, Montana, as a change in the weather allowed firefighters to get a better handle on the flames. But there are still 76 fires burning in 13 states.

Jeff Gordon had won six straight road course races but on the lap 67 restart he was the last car on the lead lap and would end up 23rd.
