Carroll County public school students are getting an extra week of summer vacation.
Five elementary schools in the county are still under construction. Parents convinced the school board to delay the start date for safety reasons.
The first day for all students has been pushed back from this Thursday, August 17, to next Thursday, the 24th.
Celanese and union negotiators have averted a strike in Giles County and say they'll go back to the bargaining table this week.

Last week, union members at the plant voted down Celco's second contract offer by a margin of almost two-to-one.
Both sides hope the mediated session Thursday will resolve the two-month contract dispute.

This afternoon firefighters volunteered to save 42 pews from the Bethel Holiness Church on Grove Street.
The church does not have enough insurance to cover the inside of the 70 year old building.
Each pew costs about three thousand dollars.

The fire broke out about 10:30 last night. 20 firefighters tried to save the building but could not.
The roof collapsed.
One firefighter fell 10 feet from a ladder. He was treated and released.

Derrick Chapman's 30-year murder sentence was repealed today.
And a lot of people say THAT's justice.

Now, a new set of jurors will decide Chapman's sentence... Something that hasn't happened before in Radford.

Chapman says he was hired by his friend Christopher DeMoranville to kill Montgomery County Circuit Judge Ray Grubbs and DeMoranville's parents for two-million dollars.
But in jail on other charges, DeMoranville told police of the plan, testified against his former cohort, and walked away with three years' probation.
Chapman's family lashed out at prosecutors for cutting a deal with DeMoranville.

But it turns out that another tattoo firm has the rights to the name right now.

Brooks was traded to New Orleans back on August 1st, and he was immediately thrown into the battle playing in both preseason games against the Vikings and the Colts.
In those two games he's attempted 12 passes, thrown and interception and fumbled once.
The Saints are hoping Brooks will go into the season as their number 2 quarterback.
He's trying to play within himself and show the Saints coaches he's ready for that opportunity.

The two are studying to be paramedics.
While on vacation in Florida in June, they witnessed a serious car accident.
They responded, and found 37-year-old Michael Herberger of Buffalo not breathing.
Hartman and Hess revived him .. They say the first ambulance didn't arrive for 30 minutes - if they hadn't been there, Herberger would've died.
