Fire has damaged a Danville church.

The front portion of the Bethel Holliness church on Grove street was engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly before 11 last night.
The front half of the church's roof caved in before firefighters could bring the fire under control.
It took more than 20 firefighters 45 minutes to douse the flames.
One firefighter was injured when he fell about 10 feet off a ladder.. He was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and later released back to duty.
Still no word on what caused the blaze.

An accident in Patrick County yesterday afternoon killed a 75-year-old Patrick Springs man.
It happened on Route 697, a half-mile east of Hunting Hills.
State Police say Sammie Marion Lawless lost control of his vehicle and collided with a pick-up truck.
Coy A. Joyce was a passenger in Lawless's vehicle. He later died at a North Carolina hospital.

An accident in Danville killed one woman and sent two other people to the hospital.
It happened around 8:30 last night on Central Boulevard.

Police say 56-year old Charles Patrick Goodman of Danville crossed the median and struck a pick-up truck head on.
His passenger, 34 year old Lisa Austin Wright of Blairs was killed.
Goodman and the pick-up driver, (Lewis) Louis Durham of Danville, were taken to the hospital.
Their injuries are apparently not life-threatening.
Traffic was blocked for more than an hour as police worked to clear the scene.
Charges against Goodman are pending.

Verizon's latest contract offer isn't sitting well with striking union workers.

Thousands of Verizon employees in Virginia and eleven other states are entering the second week of the strike.
A Verizon spokesman says their latest offer represented a summary of everybody's concerns.
But officials of the two striking unions say some key issues weren't addressed in the new offer and that some existing protections for workers were reduced.

Guitarist Wayne Henderson from Mouth of Wilson, and Old-Time fiddler Greg Hooven, of Staunton, were named Best All- Around Performers.
The group, Fescue, from Marion, Virginia, won the bluegrass band competition.
The New Ballards Branch Bog-trotters, from Galax, were named the top old-time band.
Couples tying the knot had some help planning the big event at a bridal and fashion show at the Clarion Hotel in Roanoke.

The gates to the National D-Day Memorial are now open on the weekend.
Folks who can't come during the week are taking advantage of the extra hours to see the statues, the Overlord Arch, and the ongoing construction.
George Murphy is one of 56 volunteers who is making it possible for visitors to come on the weekend and have any questions about the memorial answered.
