Before the thunderstorms rolled in thousands of Hokie fans fought bumper to bumper traffic in order to get to Lane Stadium. Jennifer Miele has more on the fans who hit the road, and how they held up.

A single lane one mile off of interstate 81 is where traffic began to back-up.
Once fans reached the bottleneck, they still had to travel three miles until they reached the stadium. That's why some fans were spotted heading to the game four hours before kick-off.
All lights in town began flashing yellow at 5:00 to help speed-up the traffic.
The only delay came at the intersection of Route 114 and North Franklin Road. A censor was not on the correct cycle, but V-DOT fixed the problem just after 5.
State police say the new exit designed to help the flow of traffic wasn't even used.
No matter what kind of traffic delays, nothing stopped these Hokie fans.

Crews were called to the "Scooches" nightclub around 8 yesterday morning after motorists reported seeing smoke pouring from the building's second floor. Firefighters found a small blaze, and quickly put it out. Damages haven't been estimated, because plans are in the works to demolish the building to make way for a parking lot.

The family of a Vinton man blames the Department of Veteran's Affairs for his suicide. Relatives of Jack Ellis have filed a 60-million dollar wrongful death complaint against the agency. In 19-97, Ellis went to the V-A Medical Center in Salem after being diagnosed with lung cancer. In March, 1998, a doctor told him his Alzheimer's disease was going to get worse. It was the first time Alzheimer's had been mentioned. Ellis shot himself the next day. His family claims he killed himself because he was mistakenly told he had the disease.
