Former School Board Member and longtime Roanoke businesswoman Marilyn Curtis has died. Diagnosed with heart problems last fall, she passed away this morning at the age of 74.

Marilyn Curtis was first appointed to the City School board in 1988, and she served the maximum of three consecutive terms.
Curtis was also well-known in Roanoke and across Virginia for her work with the Hamlar - Curtis Funeral Home. She served as the first female president of the Virginia Morticians Association.... and held leadership positions in many business, civic and community organizations.

A Metro Subway derailed in Paris today- injuring more than 20 people.

French authorities say it could have been much worse- The subway car flipped on its side and skidded to stop- narrowly missing a train parked on the opposite track.
The crash happened in Northern Paris- 24 people in all were hurt- most with cuts and scrapes ... and one person with a broken leg.
Paris officials are investigating the cause.

Both men claim to be the party's presidential nominee following a fractious convention last month.

Most babies are tested by a health care worker using a rattle. This method often misses disorders in young children.

The team already has the most wins by a Salem team since 1988. The team now has 71 wins this season, only two less than the 88 team with five games left to play. Tonight thte Avalanche hosts the Lynchburg Hillcats for the last home game of the 2-thousand season. Game time is 7:05.
