Montgomery county is the scene of a search and rescue mission for a Blacksburg man who went on a weekend hike, and never returned.

Shavro was due to return from an overnight hike Sunday.
The search started later yesterday afternoon in the Jefferson National forest. Several dog teams worked through the night, but found no sign of Shavro.
His family tells police Shavro was expected back at Army basic training in Georgia today. He was on leave for hernia surgery.

A four wheeler accident in Franklin County has killed a fifteen year old Callaway boy.
State police say Clinton Wayne Young was on an a-t-v near his home late yesterday afternoon when the accident happened.
Troopers say the teenager pulled onto route 640 in front of a pick up truck and was knocked into the path of another vehicle.
Young was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Young was not wearing a helmet.
A local business announces a major expansion.

R and B communications of Daleville will create 100 new jobs when it launches a high-speed Internet connection service geared toward residential customers.
The expansion made it necessary for the company to build a new headquarters.
It will now be part of a new office park in Botetourt Co.
R&B Communications of Daleville merged with C-F-W Communications in May.
The company has a customer base of 3.6 million people in Virginia and West Virginia.

Altec pay about 12-dollars an hour.
It hopes to open a plant in the Greenfield Industrial Park next year -- and by 2003, invest almost 13 million dollars in Botetourt County.

A popular route along the Roanoke River could re-open to the public within the next few months.

The stretch of Wiley Drive through Smith Park has been closed for over a year while crews worked on the sewer interceptor project.
That work is complete, but the city has held off on re-opening the road until speed humps and other traffic control measures can been installed.
City officials say they're now working on a construction plan to finish those improvements, which they hope will be completed by the end of the year.

V-DOT's plans to build a telecommunications tower may end in a court battle with Montgomery County officials.

The Department of Transportation wants to build a the tower near Exit 109 off Interstate 81.
It plans to lease space on the tower to telecommunications companies.
And it says it doesn't need the county's approval to do it.
But Montgomery County's Board of Supervisors is threatening legal action.
Supervisors say V-DOT should be subject to the same procedures as anyone who puts up a cell-phone tower.
That includes public hearings before the planning commission and supervisors.

VDOT says it needs the tower for its "Intelligent Transportation System" on the interstate.
It also has plans for cell towers in Augusta, Botetourt and Pulaski Counties.

Fairfax County took VDOT to court and won in an earlier dispute.
It was an "out of this world" claim.
