A Patrick County man spends the night on the banks of the Dan River - and ends up being fished out of the rising waters.

It wasn't heavy rain, but a water main break that flooded Brambleton Avenue near Fishburne Park in Roanoke this evening.

Police are blaming the break on an old main.

Salem police say two young men entered this Exxon Stop-In Food Store on East Main street around one-thirty and pulled a knife on the cashier.
They made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
A citizen managed to get the license plate number on the getaway car.
19-year-old Vershaun Duvon Vinson, of Salem, and a 15-year-old were arrested shortly thereafter without incident.

A new trade law that would make fabric production in the U-S cheaper hasn't changed the plans of Dan River Incorporated.

A spokesman for the Danville company says they still plan to open a new plant in Mexico, despite the law - which will go into effect October first.
The "Caribbean Basin Initiative" removes tariffs and limits on garmets from Central America and the Caribbean if they are made with fabric produced in the U-S.
But Dan River Incorporated says the new law hasn't changed the company's strategy.
It plans to relocate part of its equipment to Mexico in less than a year and a half.

really overkill. Who called the shot to push such "petty" stories as a major
plane crash and a hurricane to the rear of the news?
I'm probably the only person to gripe about this, but I sure expect more of
my "hometown station" than major coverage of such a lightweight event. Please
don't sacrifice the journalistic integrity that you all have earned over the

Bobby Labonte gained the edge in the pits and he crossed the finish line winning the rain shortened Southern 500 at Darlington.

After 37 laps the race was delayed for more than 2 hours because of rain on the track.
On the re-start Rick Mast would make his move coming from back in the pack to take over the 12-th spot on the track.
Jeremy Mayfield was leading the race by about 4 seconds then he drifts up the track and gets clipped by Dave Marcis hits the wall bringing out the caution and ending his day.
Then Dale Earnhardt would make his move he passed Dale Jarrett and he was the leader at the halfway marrk of the race.
Ward Burton took the lead from his brother Jeff with over 100 laps to go but he led the field on pit road after a caution on lap 321.
On the pit stop Labonte moved from fifth to first and he takes the checkered flag in a down poor winning his first Southern 500.
