Despite a new trade law that would make it cheaper to produce fabric in the U-S, Dan River Incorporated is still planning to open a new plant south of the border

A spokesman for the Danville company says they still plan to open a new plant in Mexico, despite the law - which will go into effect October first. The "Caribbean Basin Initiative" removes tariffs and limits on garments from Central America and the Caribbean if they are made with fabric produced in the U-S. But Dan River Incorporated says the new law hasn't changed the company's strategy. It plans to relocate part of its equipment to Mexico in less than a year and a half.
