Officials say the body is that of a white male... but they do NOT know his identity. Rescue squads from Eagle Rock and Buchanan removed the man from the water. His body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's office in Roanoke.

A Massachusetts man is in custody for allegedly setting a fire that's left several Wytheville families homeless.
Firefighters were called to the Northwinds Apartment complex around 8 A-M. Two apartments were damaged by flames - six sustained smoke and water damage. 22-year-old Andre James Seales was arrested as he was boarding a bus in Fort Chiswell. They say he'd recently been staying in the apartment where the fire started.
No one was injured... but seven families are having to stay at area motels.

Saudi and Iranian oil ministers say they want to increase OPEC's production level by two-percent.

A six-day blockade of oil refineries and fuel depots by truckers came to a halt today. The truckers were angered by fuel prices. Their blockade put a stranglehold on fuel supplies - causing airport delays and long lines at the pump. The government has offered to give truckers a 20-cent reimbursement per gallon of fuel this year and another 14 cents per gallon next year.

A Franklin County child died after he fell into a septic tank on his family's dairy farm. Family and friends searched for two-year-old Rueben Bowman for two hours Thursday before he was found.
Andrew Bowman found his son in a ten-foot deep tank used to catch wastewater runoff from a cow barn.
The tank's concrete lid was NOT in place. The little boy was face down in about four feet of water.

The Central Virginia Training Center in Madison Heights is being sued for the death of a resident. The family of David Hewitt says the center acted negligently when the 28-year-old collapsed of a heart attack while at King's Dominion in 1997.

Six people were taken to the hospital today after their cars collided on Route 220 in Roanoke County. Police say the driver of a Dodge Van was making a legal u-turn when the driver of a BMW rear-ended his vehicle. The driver of the van and a passenger, and 4 people in the BMW were all taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. None of the injuries are reported to be life-threatening. Police say charges are pending against the driver of the BMW.

Rubatex Corporation has filed 14 complaints against local 240 for behavior before, during and after their nine month strike.

A proposed ramp connecting Interstate 581 with the future Carilion Biomedical Center runs right through Roanoke Scrap Iron and Metal Company.
City officials say the site is contaminated with hazardous materials, but they don't want to spend the 30 million dollars necessary to clean it up.
As it stands, federal funding is the only thing besides a fence that separates the future Biomedical Center and the former Roanoke scrap yard. [PRE-PRO]

Jeff Gordon passed Jeff Burton with 14 laps to go and he holds on winning the Monte Carlo 500 at Richmond.

South Boston's Jeff Burton, who started on the pole, was the leader after 18 laps of the race.
Rusty Wallace, who runs strong at Richmond, goes past Jerry Nadeau to take over the second spot on the track.
Then Michael Waltrip gets loose and hits the wall in turn one bringing out the caution he was running 30-th at the time.
Rusty would make a move and battle Jeff Burton for the lead with over 260 laps left in the race.
But Jeff Gordon took the lead with 14 laps to go and he holds on to win the Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond.

Myrtle Beach won the Carolina League Championship tonight beating Lynchburg 5 to 2

The Hillcats were looking to force another game in the championship Series.
Myrtle Beach jumped on the Hillcats early in the game. Junior Brignac hits this shot to centerfield scoring a runner and the Pelicans jumped out to a 1 to nothing lead.
The Pelicans continued to put runs on the board. This time Travis Wilson lays down the bunt he's thrown out at first but a runner scores and Myrtle Beach took a 2 to nothing lead.

Today Venus beat Lindsay Davenport in straight sets making it two straight for the sisters.
