Family members and the community are remembering the contributions of retired judge Beverly Fitzpatrick, Senior.

Fitzpatrick passed away early yesterday morning at the age of 80.
Family members say Fitzpatrick was more comfortable and at ease in Roanoke than in any other place.
And--- he gave back to the city he loved.


Fitzpatrick was one of the first judicial leaders in Virginia to recognize alcoholism as a disease.

The Catholic Diocese has offered to donate 3 hundred thousand dollars to the city to build two soccer fields, a baseball field, and additional parking with one condition, Roanoke Catholic can use it at scheduled times.

Temperatures in the 90s and low humidity dried out grass and pine needles, adding to the fuel in the fire's path.

But the fire was still only 15 percent contained by this evening.
An illegal campfire is believed to have started the blaze.

Jeff Burton became the first driver since 1978 to lead every lap in a Winston Cup race and he won the Dural Lube 300.

Points leader Bobby Labonte would make a run at Jeff but he could only make it to second place after 187 laps.
Then on lap 216 Stacy Compton gets loose in a pack of cars and wrecks collecting Jeremy Mayfield, Kevin Lepage and a couple of other cars.

A Salem man is making his mark on the international cycling scene.

Aero bars have been on the market for years. They help cyclists go faster, by putting them in a more aerodynamic position.

Ron Glowczynski owns American Flyers and sells speedbars at his Roanoke bike shop.
But the accolades for the product don't stop there. "Pro Cycling", a magazine out of England loves them, a review is due out this month.

Brian has a patent on his design. With that he's headed to a trade show in Las Vegas, later this month to drum up more orders and maybe find a company that can mass produce speedbars.

One note from College Football the Virginia Tech Hokies moved up to the fourth spot in the Coaches poll.

Wonderful weather for some of the biggest names in music .. as they took the stage in Bristow, Virginia today... just outside Washington, D-C.

They were performing as part of Farm Aid two- thousand.
Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp were among the musicians on hand.
Barenaked Ladies, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt and several other artists were also on the schedule.
Concert organizers plan to issue a double-CD of Farm Aid performances to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the event.
