Wilbert Wesley Lewis was SHOT by a police officer during a traffic stop late last year.
Like Minor- -the man on the motorcycle ten days ago- -Lewis failed to stop for police and was driving with a suspended license. Lewis was shot in the stomach, because the officer was afraid he had a gun.
Lewis says the department needs to examine its ranks.

His case was postponed, after he told the judge he was afraid his lawyer's own legal problems might hurt Attorney Rickey Young's credibility. Young is under indictment on federal tax charges.

A Pittsylvania County accident trapped two people for nearly an hour.

It happened around seven last night on Route 29 near Chatham when a car pulled into the path of a Jeep..
Two people were trapped in the car and were taken to Danville Regional Medical Center, as was one person in the jeep.
No word on the severity of their injuries. Their names are not being released, but State Police say charges are pending.

The eight remaining Cuban survivors of a plane crash are now on U-S soil.

They arrived last night in Key West aboard a Coast Guard cutter.
The Coast Guard picked them up from the freighter that rescued them from the Gulf waters.
An ambulance quickly took them to a hospital for a check-up.
One survivor was already in the hospital with head and neck injuries.
A 10th passenger aboard the ill- fated flight died in Tuesday's crash.
Investigators will soon interview the Cubans to determine if they were trying to defect, OR if it was a hijacking.

Authorities say a small missile caused an explosion that rocked the headquarters of Britain's M-I-Six intelligence agency.

M-I-six is responsible for Britain's foreign intelligence services.

Some of the violent situations police officers encounter are caused by a person suffering from a mental illness.
But the violence can be avoided with the proper training, that's what the Roanoke County Police Department told mental health professionals last night.

An Oak tree, 100 feet tall, crashed through the roof of a duplex.

It happened around 6:30 last night on Elm Avenue. The Roanoke Fire Department says the owner of the duplex, 61-year old Brent Miller, was home, and heard the tree falling. He got out of the home safely. His wife wasn't home at the time. Miller's 73 year old mother -in- law was outside in the yard- but she wasn't hurt. Officials say the tree's 18-foot root base was rotten, which is why the tree fell over. Damage is estimated at 25-thousand dollars.

It took six years and more than 50- million taxpayer dollars, but the Whitewater investigation is over.
Neither President nor Mrs. Clinton will face any charges.

In a News7 Mason Dixon poll out yesterday, Bush has the support of 49-percent of state voters, while 39-percent back Gore. One percent are for Green Party nominee Ralph Nader, one percent support Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan, and ten percent remain undecided.
The gender gap remains, with Bush winning an extra 21 percentage points among men and Gore leading by a one percent margin among women.
80 percent of black voters favor Gore. 57 percent of whites back Bush.

Just this week, V-DOT announced the state's biggest road project, the Springfield Mixing Bowl, was now 54 percent more expensive than the public was told two years ago.
The public gets a say on the new "six-year plan" in public hearings in Roanoke and Richmond on October 5th.

Family members blame Roanoke police for the accident that killed James (Mickey) "Meekey" Minor . Police admit they were pursuing Minor the morning of the crash, but say they broke off the chase well before the accident. Family members say they've heard from other people that an officer actually struck Minor's motorcycle.
Roanoke police say the allegations are false.

A Pittsylvania County accident trapped two people for nearly an hour.
It happened near Chatham when a car pulled into the path of a Jeep..
Two people were trapped in the car and were taken to the hospital, as was one person in the jeep. No word on the severity of their injuries.

An Oak tree, 100 feet tall, crashed through the roof of a duplex in Roanoke.
No one was injured. Officials say the tree's 18-foot root base was rotten, which is why the tree fell over. Damage is estimated at 25-thousand dollars.
