Some Northwest Roanoke residents say they aren't interested in a 300-thousand dollar "no-strings-attatched" donation from the Catholic Diocese. The money would help improve Washington Park's athletic facilities, and build a tribute to Booker T. Washington. At a public meeting last night, City Manager Darlene Burcham said she'd ask city council to accept the money ONLY if residents agreed. As Meredyth Censullo reports, some residents are worried the Diocese might go back on its promise.

Northwest Residents are skeptical about a proposed donation by the Catholic Diocese. Originally, the diocese said they'd give the money to the city for improvements to the park, and exclusive use of some of the facilities for Roanoke Catholic. Because of an overwhelming community response, that stipulation has been dropped. Use of the park would still be on a first come first served basis.
