It's a night neither Jeff or Jody Hill will ever forget. They were trying to leave Lowe's Motor Speedway early so they wouldn't have to sit in traffic. But after a few steps on the bridge they heard two loud pops and then the bridge collapsed.

When emergency crews pulled Jeff from the concrete they found not only was his back broken, but his neck and ankles were fractures. Jody's left foot was crushed and her right foot was broken.

Recovery has been slow for the Hill's. Both spent several weeks in the hospital, in wheel chairs, and in physical therapy. While they were gone friends built a ramp to the front door of their new home. Now months later both are able to walk but there is still a long road to recovery. Yet Jeff and Jody have found a positive way to look at this experience.

A Danville man remains hospitalized following an early morning accident in Pittsylvania County.

State police say Joseph Richardson the third was speeding on Route 58 west when he lost control of his car and flipped several times.
Rescue crews spent about an hour freeing him from the car.
Richardson was then flown to the hospital by Lifeguard ten.
His condition has NOT been released.

At Narrows High School students can actually work in the school cafeteria once they've completed the "Serve Safe Food" program.
It teaches food handling practices, so many students are trained BEFORE working in local restaurants.

Director Stephen Lemons says patients can get appointments in a third of the time it took six months ago. But Lemons admits a lack of space is forcing the hospital to divert emergency patients to other hospitals.
He says he's considering expanding the number of monitored beds and intensive care beds at the facility.
The medical center is also trying to attract more in-house specialists.

Last weekend a couple of critical patients used more than one hundred units of blood.
Officials say that left the blood supply critically low.
The American Red Cross says the need for blood donations is an issue nationwide.
