((Burch says response time to any call in the county should take less than six minutes. Right now, if the local volunteer crew isn't available, the next closest crew is expected to respond - But that could double the response time. Burch suggests dividing the county into four quadrants-- North, South, East and West-- each staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with Advanced Life Support - or ALS - coverage. That's in addition to the volunteer services already in place. Burch says the quadrant plan would be capable of providing ALS response within 6 minutes to 80 percent of EMS calls. The plan, though, would require additional funding of 907-thousand dollars, adding 20 additional paramedics and firefighters. Burch plans to meet with all volunteer stations to discuss the proposal. A public meeting is planned for October 24th.
