The St. Thomas Anglican Catholic church held a "Blessing of the Animals" ceremony this afternoon. The event celebrates the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, known for his rapport with the natural world. In his honor, pets are blessed as a living part of God's creation.

((PATRICK GEVAS/COORDINATOR: MANY PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEIR PETS ARE VERY MUCH A PART OF THEIR FAMILY, AND THEY DON'T GET TO COME TO CHURCH ON A REGULAR BASIS, SO IF THEY'RE A PART OF A FAMILY I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO BE BLESSED LIKE THE REST OF US.))

About two dozen people brought man's best friend - and even a hamster or two - to receive the blessing.
