[**ANCHOR TAG**] The community holds the fate of the Roanoke Academy for Mathematics and Science. The Roanoke City School Board is trying to decide whether to invest 7-point-five million dollars to renovate the school, or spend 10-million to build a new one. Meredyth Censullo has more.

(( Roanoke Academy was built in the 40s - as a junior high. Two reason's why the school board is looking to invest millions - an out of date building suited for older children, not the preschool and elementary students that learn here now.

[OUT Q=this school.]

Superintendent Wayne Harris says that's one option he's offering up to parents, teachers and the community - Build a new school... Or fix up the old one, adding new classrooms and a media center and renovating the auditorium, gym and cafeteria. That option appeals to some who want to preserve the school's history.

If the School Board decides to build a new school, they're faced with another dilemma - construct it here, or ask the city if they can build it in adjacent Kennedy Park for use as a community facility. Superintendent Harris says that option would ALSO go to the community for feedback. Meredyth Censullo, News7, Roanoke.))
