The man accused in in Backstreet Cafe shootings is sceduled to be in court today for a preliminary hearing.

Ronald Edward Gay is charged in the September 22nd shooting spree at the Backstreet Cafe that left one man dead and six people wounded. Gay also faces aggravated malicious wounding and firearms charges. He could get life in prison plus 120 years if convicted on the murder and wounding charges.

Police say an argument at a Roanoke gas station led to a shooting.

Police say several young men were arguing when they entered this Sheetz store on Peters Creek Road around five yesterday morning. An employee says one of the men pulled out a gun, walked towards the back of the store and fired a shot.
The employee was NOT hurt but a 17- year old inside the store was shot.

He was taken to the hospital with a gun shot wound to the jaw. A 15-year-old from Northwest Roanoke has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held at a local Detention Center. Police say they do NOT believe the incident was gang-related.

Residents say they're upset over expansion of the Rescue Misson because they say it's creeping into their neighborhood. So, the group has formed the Historic Belmont Preservation Association. Members placed signs around their neighborhood to let officials know they mean business yesterday.

Virginia played the lead in shooting of the feature film - which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the high-stakes world of contemporary politics. The film was shot primarily in the Richmond area, although some scenes were filmed in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. The impact of the filming on Virginia's economy was six-and-a-half million dollars. That's more than the movie made in it's first weekend at the box office. Estimated ticket sales show "The Contender" pulled in 5-point-5 million dollars over the weekend.
