Funerals were held today for two of the victims of the October 12th terrorist attack. In Maryland, hundreds attended services for 19-year-old Craig Wibberley.
Closer to home-- a crowd of more than 500- stood by as Timothy Saunders received full military honors. Kelli Thompson has more from Pittsylvania County.

Hundreds of family and friends filed into the modest Baptist church in Kentuck to remember a special life that ended in tragedy.
Timothy Saunders lost his life at sea just a few short weeks ago. Family members spoke of his accomplishments BEFORE his Navy career including his stardom as a football player, track star and wrestler at Dan River High School.

Letters of comfort from friends and church groups across the state were read during the service as an act of comfort for Saunders loved ones.

The U-S Ambassador to Yemen is praising the cooperation that's taken place between Yemen and the United States. The two countries have been working together to find those responsible for the explosion that killed 17 on the USS Cole.

Officials say two suicide bombers in a small boat packed with explosives pulled up to the Cole as it was refueling. Investigators are focusing on two men who rented an apartment in Aden where officials say they found bomb-making material. They say the timing of the incident will play a crucial role in the investigation. The bombing happened an hour after the ship arrived at the port for refueling.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires certified airports to run a full scale disaster exercise every three years. This morning, the F-A-A control tower issued a mock alert that a fictional 50-passenger jet broke up and caught fire while attempting to land at the airport. Volunteers played the roles of victims, giving rescue workers at the scene - and at local hospitals - experience with a mass casualty incident like a plane crash.

A man underwent surgery last night after he was reportedly shot while driving in Roanoke.
Police say the victim had two bullet holes in his car after driving near Lincoln Terrace in Northwest.
The man, from Northern Virginia, was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial for surgery - after apparently driving himself to Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. He had been shot in both calves.
There is no word on his condition.

A Stuart woman died after she apparently lost control of her car last night. State Police say 70-year-old Francis Dalton Motley struck an embankment, flipped several times, and was thrown from her Oldsmobile off of Route 103 in Patrick County. Police say Motley was not wearing a seat belt. The crash occurred around 10-15 - she was pronounced dead at the scene 25 minutes later.

Two people were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital today after the car they were riding in collided with a tractor-trailer. The accident happned on Route 220 in Franklin County around noon today. State police say a Star Transportation Truck carrying furniture struck a car and overturned, closing down the right lane of the road for several hours. The two passengers in the car were taken to the hospital - their names and the extent of their injuries have NOT been released.

Virginia Military Institute today kicked off its most ambitious capital fundraising campaign ever.

The military college wants to raise 175- million dollars and is well on its way.
School officials say V-M-I already has commitments for 109- million dollars.
V-M-I has the largest endowment per student than any other public college in the country.
That's according to the National Association of College and University Business Officers.
V-M-I's total endowment was 263- million dollars in 1999.

A team of Russian and Norwegian divers are below the Barents Sea.

They're trying to retrieve the bodies of 118- Russian sailors who died in the Kursk nuclear submarine.
So far, the divers have cut two holes in the outer hull of the sunken sub.
A navy spokesman says cutting into the thicker inner hull will probably take place Tuesday.
But meteorologists have warned that the seas could grow rough next week, complicating the salvage effort.
Russian officials have not determined the cause of the accident.

Archaeologists have discovered 17- human skulls in an ancient Mexican pyramid.

The skulls were found in Teotihuacan (Tee'-oh-tea-wha-con)... which is about 30 miles north of Mexico City and was once the largest religious center in Mexico.
The two-thousand-year-old skulls were found inside the Pyramid of the Moon.
Scholars say this discovery may prove human sacrifices were decapitated here around the time of Christ.
An international team of archaeologists from Arizona State University uncovered the skulls.

The Hokies fell behind early. Then with 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter the Orangemen struck again Troy Nunes goes to the air and hits Maurice Jackson the pass play covers 78 yards and the Hokies fell behind 14 to 3 at the half.
Tech came back in the second half Nunes slips while dropping back to pass the ball is intercepted by Willie Pile who returns it to the Syracuse 5 yard line in the third quarter.
Vick pulls out on the option and pitches to Lee Suggs who scores on the short run Tech missed the two point conversion and trailed 14 to 9.
The Hokies closed the gap moments later in the third when Suggs bulls over from the one yard line to make it 15 to 14 with 2 minutes left in the third.

Quarterback Joe Gibson returned after missing three games and he threw two touchdown passes and Matt Maxey booted two field goals as the Keydets beat Charleston Southern 40 to 7.
V-M-I is now 1 and 7 overall and 0 and 5 in the Southern Conference.

The Busch cars were at the Rock today for the Sam's Club 200.
The race came down to a one lap shootout between Jeff Green and Jeff Burton.
Green jumped to the outside on the restart and he holds off Burton for the win. The victory was Green's sixth this season and all he has to do to clinch the Busch Series championship is start the October 29-th race at memphis.

Heavyweight boxer Andrew Golota is in a Chicago hospital under observation for a concussion.

In his bout last night with Mike Tyson Golota quit before the start of the third round. He complained that Tyson used an illegal head butt causing a cut over his left eye.
