Volunteers tested more than 450 streams across the state last spring to determine if the waterways were still contaminated from acid rain.
While a few of the streams showed a slight improvement in water quality, the acid levels were getting- worse in the rest.
That's cut the state's brook trout population.
Officials say the new numbers suggest that the 1990 Clean Air Act is not doing enough to protect the nation's ecosystem from pollution.

Bowers was once convicted of assault and ordered to surrender all firearms.
Police obtained the warrant based on information from neighbors who said Bowers had shot at their dogs- -or threatened to- -before.
In addition to the guns and ammo, police seized a container of anti-freeze and some hamburger from Bowers' home.
