The D-E-Q says Iron Gate must begin pumping sewage into Alleghany County by 2004. The county wants one and a half million dollars for that service. If the town's 450 residents don't want to pay, they'll have to turn their city over to Alleghany County.

Iron Gate borrowed nearly 800 thousand dollars in 1991 to build a new sewage plant. Former council members felt another loan to pump sewage into a new plant was too risky. Now it's the voters of Iron Gate who will decide if their town is worth one point five million dollars.
