You know you can count on traffic being backed up when it's race day at the Martinsville Speedway. But now the race track is trying to alleviate some of those headaches by proposing a road that would make parking easier and faster. Kate Weidaw has more.

((This open field used to park thousands of cars on race day may soon have a new road running through it. Officials say it's needed because the road leading into the race track can not accommodate the traffic.

The proposed road would start at the top of Speedway Road and run through the field avoiding the property of the nearby homes. Walkways off the road would provide easy access for race goers to get to their cars and would keep them from walking in traffic.

But some residents on Speedway Road aren't so sure the proposed road would avoid their property. Bill and Edith Maxwell say the race track brought two other proposals to the Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday that showed the road cutting through their back yard.
