Good evening folks and welcome to the regular season finale of Friday Football Extra. What a night we have you with everything from a report from the Orange Bowl in Miami - to an amazing story of a Northside lineman who 17 years ago was making headlines as an infant in the Star City.
[GRAPHIC=CAVE/PULASKI]

But we begin tonight with what was supposed to be the culmination of Pulaski County's perfect 10 and 0 season. The Cougars came into Roanoke County tonight facing a Cave Spring that had been stripped of six wins and any chance of making the playoffs. Most folks figured this team had also been stripped of its will pride and it's will to win. Those folks were dead wrong.

[SUPER=51-Roanoke Co./Pulaski Co. vs. Cave Spring;]

It was seniors night at Dwight Bogle stadium as many of these young man knew they were preparing to play their final home game. And they certainly played under the motto that "the Future is Now." Jacob Lewis hit Tom Hagen to cap a 70 yard drive to open the game. It's 7-to-nothing and the fireworks were just beginning. Cave Spring takes its next possession and goes 46 yards with an instant replay on the Lewis to Hagan bullet pass for another score. It's 14-to-nothing. After a blocked punt, Cave would get on the board again in the first as Lewis again throws a TD pass. This time Daniel Payne hauls it in and he jukes his way in from 32 yards out. It's now 21-to-nothing. The Knights would go up 28-to-nothing on another Lewis TD pass, and then continue moving the pill as Lewis scoots in from 20 yards out on the keeper and suddenly the score is 35-to-nothing in the second. Then right before the half with the Cougars already staggering, Lewis hooks up with Michael Brammer over the middle. The Knights hit the lockeroom on top 42-to-nothing. Lewis had 297 yards passing at halftime. Lewis would continue to destroy the Pulaski secondary as he hooks up with Brammer on a 61 yard bomb.
[SUPER=52-Pulaski Co./14/Cave Spring/49;]

The Knights take a 49-to-nothing lead in the third and cruise to the amazing 49 to 14 victory over previously unbeaten Pulaski County.

Friday Football Extra has learned tonight that Cave Spring has filed another appeal with the Virginia High School League in an attempt not to forfeit the six games it played with an ineligible player early in the season. An independent hearing officer, or attorney, would hear this case. However, a VHSL official told me tonight the league plans to set the playoff pairings on Sunday without Cave Spring in the equation.

The Cave Spring players rallied around their coaches tonight and the community rallied around the players. The disappointment of missing the playoffs will still be with the Cave Spring program for a while, but head coach Ben Foutz can rest easy this weekend knowing the lessons he learned as a young assistant coach under Jim Hickam, have now been successfully passed on to his own players.

We pick it up with PH on top 14-to-7 at the half. PH is looking for more as Maurice Robinson keeps and carries inside the five yard line. But PH comes up empty as the Colonels' defense stands tall. But the Fleming special teams would hurt the Colonels again tonight as the long snapper sails the ball out of punt formation over Richard Barrett's head. It ends up being a safety for PH. It's now 16-to-7.
[SUPER=52-Patrick Henry/16/William Fleming/14;]

Fleming would come back and cut the lead to 16-to-14 as Calvin Bannister runs it in off the right side. But that's how it ends as PH wins a share of the RVD crown.

((At 5 foot 11 and 188 pounds, Glenn has attained the durability to play on offense, defense and special teams for the North Cross Raiders.)) ((JIM MUSCARO/NORTH CROSS HEAD COACH:)) ((The Raider offense is built around Glenn a former quarterback. And last week against Massanutten he showed his durability carrying the ball 28 times for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Raiders come from behind win.)) ((CHARLIE GLENN/PLAYER OF THE WEEK:)) ((Veteran coaches like Muscaro refer to players like Glenn as old school. He lifts weights in the off season, studies film and devotes all his extra time toward the game.
And when the Raiders suit up for practice or on game day, Glenn is there to lead by example.)) ((MUSCARO:)) ((GLENN:)) ((ROY STANLEY:)) ((Glenn will welcome the chance to play football in college but his major priority is leading the Raiders into the Independent conference playoffs.
