The trial for the man accused of murdering Radford teen Tara Munsey has been pushed back two-and-a-half months.

Jeffrey Allen Thomas is charged with capital murder in the 16-year-old's murder during what is called a rape or ATTEMPTED rape last January.
Today, a Pulaski County judge continued Thomas' trial until February 16th.
Defense attorneys requested the delay because they're still awaiting THEIR expert's evaluation of D-N-A evidence in the case.
The trial WAS set to start at the end of this month.

Three Los Angeles police officers could be going to prison for one to four years.
A jury today found three LA- officers guilty of conspiring to frame gang members, falsifying reports and perjury.

The defendants were accused of manufacturing evidence against gang members in the L-A area.
The issue was not only whether the officers planted evidence-- but if they wrote false police reports and testified falsely as well.

A third officer was also found guilty of conspiracy as well as perjury.
A fourth officer was acquitted.

The Ferrum College Panthers, who just missed making the division three playoffs, dominate this year's Atlantic central football conference postseason all-conference team.

Dave Davis's club, which had the number one ranked defense in the nation this year, grabbed 16 places on the all-star team including 10 on defense. Tone Dancy was named the defensive player of the year. Locals like Jamie Dunn from Rocky Mount, Tim Boothe from Byrd, Nat Hodges from Franklin County and Phil Hairston from Fieldale-Collinsville put Ferrum on the map this season.

The Roanoke Express has acquired it's fifth new player this week and folks its just Thursday morning. Right wing Kevin McDonald joins Roanoke from the Florida Everblades.

Anderson becomes the third Express player to be sent to another team this week.

Redick, a first team triple A all state pre-season selection, averaged around 23 points a game last season and knows his jersey might as well be a bullseye. ((J.J. REDICK:)) ((:))
The Knights have the most aggressive schedule in school history. Oak Hill, Gonzaga and Mount Airy are just three of six phat Foes Cave Spring will face this season, all they play all but Oak Hill before mid January. ((:)) 9 of Hicks's 13 players are multiple sport stars and he returns three starters. Season goals are being set. Ignoring the hype, the Knights say, won't be hard, they just think back to their 75-54 loss 1999 Northwest regional season ending loss to G.W.Danville. ((:))

News 7 sports has learned that Hicks will be the athletic director at the new South Roanoke County high school when it opens in 2002.

Sources say that Hicks will coach the Cave Spring boys basketball team for two more years and then step down and assume the athletic directors position at the new school. Hicks is following this plan in order to coach Duke bound J.J. Redick and fellow junior Daniel Payne to the end of their high school careers. Hicks is a Roanoke College graduate. He has been the head boys basketball coach at Cave Spring high school since 1996.

The VMI Keydets have signed 7 baseball players during the early signing period. The best of the 7 just might be pitcher Jeff Demara from Great Bridge high school in Chesapeake. He struck out 62 batters last year. The most interesting signing is another pitcher named Travis Mumaw from Central high school in Woodstock. He's a six foot five inch lefty.
