((GOD SAVE THESE UNITED STATES, THE GREAT STATE OF FLORIDA AND THIS HONORABLE COURT. Floridas seven supreme court justices know the presidency may very well be in their hands CHIEF JUSTICE CHARLES T. WELLS) COURT IS AWARE OF THE UTMOST, VITAL IMPORTANCE TO STATE AND WORLD. Two weeks after Americans went to the polls to elect a new president the democrats and republicans were in Floridas highest court arguing whether to allow hand recounts into the final tally. PAUL HANCOCK/DEMOCRATIC ATTORNEY or alternate font: Attorney for Florida Attorney General's Office. THE RIGHT TO VOTE INCLUDES THE RIGHT TO HAVE THAT VOTE COUNTED. JOE KLOCK/REPUBLICAN ATTORNEY or Attorney for Secretary of State: The two sides want to know if Floridas secretary of state Katherine Harris has the right to certify the vote before the manual recounts going on in three counties is complete. Harris...a republican was set to declare George W. Bush the winner..thus giving him the presidency. But Friday the supreme court put that on hold. Bush leads Al Gore by just more than 900 votes..the democrats believe with the hand count they can make up the difference. In todays hearing...the justices peppered both sides with questions about chads and dimples referring to punch ballots and voters internet. Joseph Klock: And then we enter the great universe of Chad...corners...attached.. DREW LEVINSON...THE JUSTICES HAVE BEEN ASKED FOR GUIDLINES ON HOW TO READ THOSE CHADS....AT LEAST FOUR JUSTICES MUST AGREE ON ISSUES....WHEN THAT DECISION COMES..NOBODY KNOWS. )

Virginia Tech's football program has been making strides in rankings and recognition in recent years.
But an N-C-Double-A report released today shows fewer of its players are graduating.

[SUPER=03-Blacksburg;]

In the last three years, Tech football graduation rates reported to the NCAA declined by more than half.
65 percent graduated three years ago.
Last year, only 29 percent of players got their degrees.
Tech's athletic department says the numbers are a bit misleading.
They only reflect scholarship athletes who start as freshman and graduate from Tech within six years.
But players who transfer, quit or go pro- count against the school.
Tech says looking at graduation averages over the long-term would be better.
We'll do that on News-7 at 6, and see how Tech's graduation rates compared to its rival schools.
