The efforts of Virginia State Police to crackdown on speeding have garnered some international praise.

Governor Gilmore ordered "saturated enforcement" on Interstate 81 beginning in February of LAST year.
It resulted in 33-THOUSAND speeding tickets being issued.
Police say the crackdown should be credited for a drop in traffic fatalities in Virginia in 1999.
Now... The International Association of Chiefs of Police has recognized Virginia State Police for the crackdown.

The Roanoke Express is working as well this Thansgiving. The Team is in Daytonfor a battle with the Dayton Bombers. Roanoke has won two straight and is 9 and 8 on the season. Dayton is in second place in the Northwest Division with a 9 and 4 record. The game faces off at 7:30.

Finally today, at least one turkey had some fun today. The Hokie Bird hit the ski slops at the Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia. The Virgina Tech mascot was taking a quick break before the busy sports weekend that will see the Hokies match up with U-V-A both on the basketball court and the grid iron.
