But Bush will have to wait a little longer for the final victory celebration, as his challenger, Vice President Al Gore, continues to prepare for a court challenge.

Rescue crews received a cell-phone call from Hubert around 5-30 yesterday evening saying he was lost. But the antenna on his phone broke, and Hubert lost communication with rescue workers. Hubert was finally located around 2 this morning, however it took about five hours for rescuers to carry him down the trail because he was too weak to walk.

A 70-year-old Henry County man was found shot to death in his home this afternoon ..

Officials with the Sheriff's department say the man's daughter found his body around two o'clock at his home on Old Bassett Heights Road. A shotgun was found at the scene. Officials say the man allegedly mentioned to his daughter earlier in the day that he might clean his guns. Deputies believe the wound was self-inflicted, and that the shooting was accidental .. but the incident is still under investigation. The man's name has not been released.

Frank Beamer has taken the Hokies to unprecedented heights during his 14 years as Tech's head football coach, but tonight there's concern he may head south to North Carolina. This morning, the University of North Carolina was granted permission to talk to Beamer about becoming the Tarheels' new head coach. Sources tell News 7 Beamer met with U-N-C athletic director Dick (Buh-Door) Baddour this afternoon,

Massachusettes State Police say by midday, dozens of accidents had already occurred throughout the state, due mainly to the slick roads. Freezing rain also caused complications for air travelers. Delays at Logan International Airport were about 90 minutes, with longer delays on some flights between Boston and the West Coast, New York and Chicago.

No icy weather here, but plenty of holiday headaches for travelers on Interstate 81 in Virginia today. Northbound traffic in Botetourt county was bumper to bumper this afternoon after a series of accidents backed up traffic for at least 20 miles. State Police report an accident near Lexington sent several people to the hospital - although the number of patients and their conditions haven't been released. Police say several other chain-reaction accidents only made the situation worse.

Salem police say the driver of this Suzuki Sidekick was at a red light in front of Lewis Gale when he attempted to make a left hand turn onto Keagy Road. The Sidekick was sideswiped by a Toyota Camry .. The driver and a passenger in the Sidekick were taken to Roanoke Memorial. The driver of the Camry was taken to Lewis Gale. Police say none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. Charges are pending against the driver of the Sidekick.

900- families are homeless in South Africa after fire ripped through a shantytown on the outskirts of Cape Town.

The fire was in Langa township, a poor Cape Town suburb where people live in shacks. Officials there say the fire broke out in the afternoon and took firefighters four hours to get under control. Police say an anonymous caller led authorities to a hotel room where they found Downey with cocaine and methamphetamine last night. The 35-year-old was arrested for drug possession, being under the influence and committing a felony while free on bail. Actress Cybill Shepherd is unhurt after a fire at her Memphis, Tennessee home. The actress called the fire department after seeing smoke in her attic yesterday. Aaron Brooks got his first career start today and the former Virginia quarterback passed for 190 yards and scored the winning touchdown as New Orleans beat the St. Louis Rams 31 to 24.

Brooks was fired up for his first N-F-L start.
The Saints fell behind 7 to nothing then Brooks goes to the air and hits Brian Milne on the 4 yard touchdown pass play and the Saints tied the game at 7.
Then in the second quarter, Brooks fakes the handoff and takes it to the house from 2 yards out and New Orleans led 21 to 7.

The Rams tied the game at 24 in the fourth then Brooks scores the winner diving over the top from the 1 and the Saints win it 31 to 24.

The Radford Highlanders broke a three game losing streak today beating Hampton 74 to 70 at the Dedmon Center.
