It looked for a while this weekend, that Virginia Tech's loss would be the University of North Carolina's gain as the Tar Heels tried hard to bring head coach Frank Beamer to U-N-C.
But after a tense weekend, Beamer ended the speculation today when he announced he would stay with the University that he had taken to the brink of the national championship last year.

George W. Bush may have been certified the winner of Florida's Electoral votes, but Al Gore isn't giving up.
His lawyers went to court this afternoon to contest the election.
Bush is the certified winner by 537 votes-
But nearly three weeks after election day and with three counts favoring Bush- Gore continues to claim there are more votes out there for him.
We have two reports tonight- beginning with Gretchen Carlson in Washington.

Joe and I believe very strongly that every vote has to count.
House Democratic leader Dick Gephardt and Senator Minority leader Tom

election results.
Rep. Dick Gephardt/D-Minority Leader
Our members feel very strongly we need to have a fair and accurate count.
Sen. Tom Daschle/D-Minority Leader
In order to win you have to have the votes and we feel you have the votes.
Even the President, at a Cabinet meeting to discuss the transition for the new administration ... says it's too soon to declare a winner.

In all of this it's easy to lose sight of what is important, the integrity of the voter.
The Democrats call for patience comes less than 24 hours after Governor George W. Bush was declared the winner in Florida ... and it was
bolstered by more court action in Florida this morning.
Will this be the only filings will there be others today?
In Leon County, Gore's lawyers filed papers to officially contest Florida election results in 3 counties.
As the court hearing got underway this afternoon, both candidates were once again out pressing the flesh Bush shaking hands in Texas
Gore greeting supporters in D.C.
