Today was the last day the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford was open to the public. Officials have to close it down so construction on the memorial can be finished by June 6th, for the dedication ceremony.

A manhunt for a 19-year-old who escaped police custody Friday ended in the teen's death. Now a spokesman for the Virginia State Police says David Owen Sensabaugh shot himself in the head.

Deputies tracked Sensabaugh to an area near Lexington Friday afternoon .. Sensabaugh reportedly fired a handgun at deputies, who returned fire. Autopsy results, released yesterday, determined Sensabaugh was killed by a contact gunshot wound to his head. A sergeant with the Virginia State Police says interviews, along with the autopsy report, reveals Sensabaugh inflicted the fatal wound on himself.

Investigators hope to identify a man found dead inside a Roanoke apartment. A caller notified Roanoke police around midnight that a body had been found in an apartment at Lincoln Terrace. The apartment, at the intersection of Gandy and Liberty, was vacant due to renovations. Police say the man did NOT have any identification.

The body was sent to the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.[DUI-Checkpoint]

Roanoke City Police handed out three D-U-I's during their first sobriety checkpoint of the holiday season.

Officers stopped about 300 cars on the 31-hundred block of Franklin Road Southwest between Beechwood and Avenham last night. In addition to the D-U-I's, police report they made 6 drug charges and handed out 38-tickets for various other offenses. One person was arrested for being a habitual offender. The police department says the site was chosen because of alcohol-related traffic crashes and drunk driving arrests in that area.

The developer of a presidential theme park is hoping to open his York County park to tourists this spring.

Everette Newman's park will feature 18- foot tall busts of all the U-S presidents. He hopes to begin construction next month saying the park will be an outdoor museum. But critics have fought the park saying it will siphon tourists from real historical attractions such as Colonial Williamsburg.

Three of the giant busts are currently on display in Buena Vista. Abraham Lincoln, William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor are being housed there until they're transferred to the park.

A Pittsylvania County military school may be out of luck. The former president of the First National Bank of Keystone willed part of his shares of stock in the bank to Hargrave Military Academy, which he attended. But the Bluefield, West Virginia bank where J Knox McConnell was president until his death in 1997, went under. Hargrave has sued for the money. But the F-D-I-C says the school is not entitled to it.

Today the Flyers fired Craig Ramsay and named assistant Bill barber as the new head coach. General Manager Bob Clarke said the Flyers had become an easy team to play against and he doesn't find that acceptable.
Entering tonight's game against the Islanders, Philadelphia is in fourth place in the N-H-L's Atlantic Division with a 12-12 and 4 record.
Last year, Ramsay led the Flyers to within a victory of the Stanley Cup Finals.
