In the last five years, Martinsville lost thousands of jobs when business like Tultex, Sara Lee, and Bassett and Pulaski Furniture shut down.
The revenue generated by a new Cinergy Power Plant will replace all of those loses combine.

[IN Q=Today we can safely]

[RUNS=09]

If Cinergy gets approval from two state agencies, construction will begin on this 20-acre lot in the fall.

Four gas turbines would make electricity. The company would also replace and expand an existing gas pipe line so more natural gas can be pumped into the industrial park.
250 people would be hired to construct the plant, and 10 others would be hired permanently with starting salaries around 36 thousand dollars.
[ANCHOR=JENNIFER FULL]

More jobs, tax revenue and power are going to take some time.
The city of Martinsville won't reap the full benefits for at least six years or so -- but that's not pulling the plug on the project.

It was supposed to be a day of celebration -- but for President-Elect Bush, it was a day of hard work, and prayer.
The theme of a special Church Service this morning -- was reconciliation.
As the Bush team finaly got the keys to their new transion office in Washington ..the theme there was caution. as they look forward to a meeting next week with al Gore. DICK CHENEY, VICE PRESIDENT ELECT I think the meeting is very importnat. Symbols are very important in this business, and this goes a long way to that.
And so will cheyney sounding out Democrats about posible positions in a Bush administration -- something advisors considred akward while the winner was still in doubt. DICK CHENEY, VICE PRESIDENT ELECT: "Those constraints are now off, and we're able to begin to be much more aggressive in that regard."
Indeed -- the Governor spent most of his time today on the phone -- conferring with Congressional leaders of both parties -- even agreeing to meet with the Reverend Jesse Jackson to talk about election reform -- something his brother had already been quick to address in Florida. GOV. JEB BUSH, FLORIDA: "We will ensure the fairness of our system, that our voting and counting systems are fully modernized." COWAN: "But beyond personnel, there is the task of choosing his agenda carefully. With such a divided Congress, most agree the Governor can't afford to be tied down to divisive issues if he's going to make any progress at all. Lee Cowan, CBS News, Austin."))

Four of five tires on the state plane carrying Governor Jim Gilmore and some staffers blew out this morning, as the Governor landed at Reagan National Airport.
The plane landed safely and NO one was hurt.
The state aviation department is speculating that ice caused the tires to blow.
All four were on the main landing gear under the plane's body.
The fifth tire that remained intact was under the plane's nose.
The Governor was on his way to the National Press Club to speak about the national anti-terrorism preparedness commission he headed up this year.
