Earl Washington's request for early release has been turned down by the Virginia parole board.

The former death row inmate was pardoned by Governor Gilmore after D-N-A evidence cleared him of rape and murder.

But the Governor left it up to the parole board to determine whether Washington should be released from prison immediately.
The board has denied Washington early release from a 30- year sentence for a malicious wounding conviction in 1983.
Washington's mandatory release date is February 12th.

Virginia's Governor will soon be the chairman of his party's national committee, a job that will take him all over the country.
But as his budget woes increase here in Virginia, it's been Jim Gilmore's rhetoric that's been all over the map.
Ellen Qualls goes back to the videotape, to listen in on what the Governor's been saying, then and now.
