In response to the negotiations, Trigon released a statement today saying, "While we have made some progress in our negotiations over the past several months, the hospital continues to seek double-digit rate increases. As a result, we still have some distance to go reach an agreement that would serve our members' best interest and provide them with affordable access to hospital services"
The hospital's C-E-O released a statement saying, "If we were to meet the demands of Trigon, we feel as if we would compromise our ability to provide quality health care."
The hospital says it has concerns about the reduction of payment that Trigon has requested.
As far as patients are concerned, they can still go to Memorial except now they will be billed directly, and that could mean they might end up paying more. The other option is to travel to an in-network hospital -- which would mean traveling at least 18 miles. Even though the deadline to reach a new contract is December 31 -- both parities say there is a possibility negotiations will continue.
