Former Express General Manager Tony Mancuso is indicted for embezzling funds from the hockey team.
A Roanoke Grand Jury handed up a pair of three- count indictments this afternoon... one against Mancuso, and the other against his assistant, James Higginbotham.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=04-1998]
Mancuso was let go at the end of the 98-99 season. The team's current general manager says the organization was "just swimming in red ink." But Mark Fackrell says it was only after Mancuso and Higginbotham left that the team realized what had happened.
Chief Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Betty Jo Anthony says about 10-thousand dollars was embezzled from the Express between June 1st of '98 and the end of June, 1999. Fackrell says it was AT LEAST 10-thousand.

Higginbotham and Mancuso are charged with embezzlement, obtaining money by false pretenses and grand larceny. The prosecutor says there was equipment involved as well as certain trade-out arrangements intended for the benefit of the Express but allegedly diverted for personal use.
