During the extraordinary meeting Sunday night, Ford lawyers told Bailey they were sorry, admitted a mistake had been made, and expressed their deepest regret. Monday a Ford spokesperson publicly supported the move. Helen Petrauskas -- Ford Vice President "This is a tragic accident and we feel a lot of sympathy for her and for her family."
The apology was one of the demands Bailey and her lawyers were asking for in their 100 million dollar lawsuit. Bailey, an active outdoor enthusiast and just 44, was paralyzed from the neck down when the Ford Explorer she was riding in rolled last March. She was sitting on the passenger side -- with her seatbelt on - but when the tread on the Firestone tire separated - her life was also torn apart. Donna Bailey - Ford/Firestone Victim Gretchen Carlson Reporting Baileys lawsuit would have been the first case against Ford and Firestone to go to trial since more than 6 million tires were recalled in August. But as many as 200 other cases involving tire-related crashes are still pending. Many of those cases were rollover accidents where people died, and while Donna Bailey survived her crash, she'll be a quadrapalegic for life -- Donna Bailey: "I'm satisfied." .. remarkably able to forgive.
